My twitter user name is TAC (all caps). I seems some other guy has a user name of 'tac' and in TweetDeck I get all his replies. What's up with that? Am I going to have to abandon 'TAC' as my user name?

Thnx.

Names are case insenstive, meaning, if you have "TAC" another cannot have "tac" . Are you sure you are not just seeing hash tags #tac ?

The replies are in the Replies column of TweetDeck. @tac is in a list with a number of other names preceeded with the '@' sign.

Thnx

This means they are referring to you, as well as other. This is most common in #followfriday tweets and other tweets where a user is mentioning multiple users.

Bo, thnx for the speedy replies. I'm flattered but I have no idea who these people are replying to '@tac'. The only thing I can figure is they are confusing the dude's name with his twitter id. In searching for 'tac' I do only see one twitter id of 'tac', but see a crap load of names listed as 'tac' or 'TAC'.

Thnx again,

This is what someone told me that ask why I was getting these messages.

'@TAC o... you have the same username as someone on Blip.fm so you are likely receiving tweets aimed @ them (Blip is run by the Twitter folk)'

Looks like I'll have to abandon 'tac' as my twitter name.

I just heard on the Buzz Outloud podcast there used to be a Twitter option that would allow you to block '@' replies from those you don't follow. The bitch on BOL was that Twitter just deleted this option and now dosen't allow any replies from people you don't follow whether you want 'em or not.

Looks like the programmers a Twitter have been following this thread and this was enough to have them implement this change! :-)
