Richard provides program design and development as founding Director for the Military Invivo Clinic. Richard has provided treatment for individuals with chronic mental illness, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as other diagnoses. His approach as a clinician and art psychotherapist has served treatment failure juveniles and incarcerated adults affected by trauma in combined private practice, residential and hospital settings for over fifteen years.

Richard remembers his first �aha� with virtual worlds: � I read about Virtual Reality as an adjunctive therapy and visualized a temenos relationship in therapy built on common digital ground. What excited me was the link from the world of the unconscious to virtual metaphor. Here was real world access to unconscious material. I was hooked. The concrete, computer-as-television barrier was lifted creating a virtual portal to the imaginal. Augmented reality, gaming platforms and nascent virtual tools offer a cognitive shift from real world experience to a shared virtual world of exploration.� Richard is responsible for the California component of a national, three year focused clinical trial utilizing the adjunctive therapy, Virtual Iraq. Richard, and like-minded co-researchers, Michelle Conover and Albert �Skip� Rizzo continue Project Neuro as a collaborative clinical vision.

Richard combines personal art making with a deep understanding of expressive technology.
